I got my volunteering work by applying directly through the charity's website. I filled out the required information on a few non-profit organization's websites. Some responded to me. At the end one organization scheduled me an interview quickly. It was office work. Be remembered that many of organizations want you to commit volunteering for at least 3 months.
The volunteering work normally requires to work 2-3 hours per week. Some may reimburse one way or round trip TTC fare.
They were delighted to provide me with references which I needed it for future job applications. The volunteering work is a very good opportunity to gain Canadian experience, meet with people and get references for your job search.
