Connection and Networking - part 3

The YMCA of Greater Toronto was the first organization I visited after I arrived shortly in Toronto.  It is a one-stop shop for newcomers.  Its newcomer program includes -
       - Newcomer Information Center
       - Language Assessment and Referral Center
       - Newcomer Youth Leadership Development

I learned about it before I left for Canada.  It is widely advised that it is better to be well prepared beforehand.  So I spent quite some time searching on Internet and attending information sessions that I came to my notice.

You need to bring with you the immigration documents when you visit them.  You need to fill out application form once there for their records.  The counselor will talk to you about your status and needs, based on that information they provide you with the necessary information and refer you to the specialized newcomer settlement organizations.
